Home services and freedom of choice for families
Finland needs a consistent family policy that minimizes inequality.
Families should have a genuine freedom of choice in terms of how they wish to arrange their child care. The idea of statutorily dividing child-care leaves into specific periods for the mother and father is not a viable solution. Parents of young children, in particular, must be granted better opportunities for flexible working hours.
Municipal home services must be increased in order to help families dealing with temporary difficulties. The exchange of information concerning a child must be improved between the various relevant parties. We must ensure sufficient and competent personnel to oversee child welfare.
